Percussionist, educator, and composer Chad Heiny is the Assistant Director of Bands and Percussion Specialist at Kiski Area High School in Vandergrift, PA. In addition to his duties at Kiski, Chad is currently a Percussion Judge for Winter Guard International, a Music Ensemble Specialist for the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Creative Consultant for the Pittsburgh Steeline.
An avid, eager, and versatile composer, Chad has composed music for an eclectic collection of ensembles and performers across the country. Chad has been a passionate contributor to the pageantry arts since 2003 and prior to his current role at the Blue Knights, he arranged, coordinated, and consulted for several DCI World Championship Finalists. These ensembles include the Cadets, the Spirit of Atlanta, the Boston Crusaders, and the Glassmen. Chad also continues to write and design for both high school and collegiate marching bands across the country.
Under his leadership, the percussion program at Kiski Area has grown exponentially in all areas and most recently were a featured ensemble at the 2017 Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival, sponsored by Music for All. In the WGI arena, Kiski Percussion won three Regional Championships in both Concert Open and Concert World from 2013-2015, and was the bronze medal winning ensemble in Concert Open Class at the 2014 WGI World Championships. Since his appointment in 2006 as Assistant Director and Percussion Arranger, the Kiski Area Marching Band has been a BOA Regional Grand Champion seven times and are three-time Class AA silver medalists at BOA Grand Nationals.
Chad earned a Master's Degree in Music Performance from Louisiana State University and Bachelor's Degrees in both Music Education and Music Performance from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of both the Percussive Arts Society and ASCAP and is a proud endorser of Majestic Percussion, Innovative Percussion, and Remo Drumheads. He resides just outside of Pittsburgh, PA with his wife Nichole, son Christopher, and dog Cailey.
